Co-Founder, Lazada & Serial Tech Investor
Tim Rath is a seasoned tech entrepreneur and investor based in Europe and Asia.
He invests in startups dedicated to supporting early and growth stage deep tech ventures globally. Tim leads a team of operator investors with the goal of enabling deep-tech founders with the right foundation to scale their companies to a successful exit.
Notably, Tim co-founded Lazada Group, one of Southeast Asia’s most successful decacorns, and the leading full exit to Alibaba (NYSE: BABA), initially in 2018 and through subsequent tranches leading to full exit in 2020. Today Lazada Group has more than 20,000 FTEs and USD 20bn GMV.
He played a pivotal role in scaling Lazada into the region’s leading online marketplace, overseeing commercial operations across 8 countries in Asia Pacific and exited the business to Alibaba (NYSE: BABA) in 2018. Driven by a passion for creating and supporting transformative B2C and B2B technology businesses, Tim has acted as an early investor through his own personal investment vehicle - Tycho Capital, ostensibly his personal family office, as well as being on the Board of his own family's multigenerational family office which has a more traditional long-term focus.
Personally, he has acted as an advisor for a portfolio of startups across Europe and Asia, including acting as the founding investor of the Amsterdam based Ed-tech company Lepaya. Tim’s career began at Dechert LLP and he later joined The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in Germany, where he honed his expertise in strategy and business transformation.
