David was appointed the Executive Director of Perth Zoo in February 2024. He oversees all operations to ensure the Zoo provides excellent animal welfare, an exceptional and educational visitor experience, and continues to have a global impact on wildlife.
He brings a wealth of experience from local and State Government sectors, having held leadership roles across non-profits and attractions, including RSPCA WA, the WA Museum and Tourism WA.
David’s passion for a career in conservation and animal welfare was shaped in part by an early stint at Perth Zoo between 1998-2001, working across visitor experience, marketing and events.
This passion was further strengthened when he led RSPCA WA for seven years as Chief Executive Officer, an organisation that advocates for policy and legislative change to improve animal welfare and carries out operations that ensure the safe rehoming of animals in need.
David is also the Vice President of the Zoo and Aquarium Association of Australasia, which is the peak industry body that represents the collective voice of the zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries and wildlife parks across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and Papua New Guinea that operate to the highest welfare standards.
